Guidelines for Journal Article Critique (Math block)

Guidelines
Critique of a Journal Article about Technology in Math Education (M321 and W301)

Based on the article you selected, use both the Assignment Instruction in M321 and Guidelines in W301 to explain your thoughts in the essay and support with evidence or specific examples in the journal article -

· What kind of technologies are used or integrated?
· How does the technology help students learn or help the teacher teach?
· To what extent does the technology enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning ?
· What are the advantages of using the technology mentioned in the article ?
· What are the possible limitations or concerns of using the technology?

Week 5 - Agenda (Wednesday Math Block)

Before class -
1. Post your reflections on the team blog (with the label "your firstname, Reflection") by 2/2 Fri

Reflection 3 : Summary of reflection 1 and 2
(experience/thoughts you would like to share with others)
Reflection 4 : Experience/ thoughts / questions about blogging and e-portfolio
2. Work on E-portfolios

Interface ( such as link bar, theme, background) and Content (such as your profile, projects in math, useful links...)
In class - We'll meet at Student Building 221

1. Video case analysis
Edutopia DVD
Edutopia Video Library
Video Case analysis Template (Download)
Post your case analysis in your team blog (with the label "your firstname, Reflection" )
Save the word document in your e-portfolio folder in the flash drive

2. Meet with your instructor individually or in pairs
Explain and demostrate your individual e-portfolio template
Get 5 pts for e-portfolio tempalte

3. Technology in Math Reflection/ Critique (5pts) - 2/14
Reflection/Critique of the journal article you select for M321 (Guidelines)
( I'll provide feedback and grade your reflection/critique by accessing the same assignment you'll turn in for M321. Therefore, you don't need to write another essay. However, you do need to cover the key points in the guidelines to help you explain thoughts in the essay. )
Save the word document in your e-portfolio folder in the flash drive

After class -

1. Upload the word document--Technology in Math Reflection/ Critique--to Oncourse Dropbox M321 by 2/14

2. Make the necessary revisions for your e-portfolio

Week 4 - Tech needs assessment and e-portfolio

Before class-
1. keep working on the e-portfolio; edit web-pages
2. bring pictures and your flash drive


In class -
1. technology needs assessment/inventory (download the slides) (download the template)
2. e-portfolio: page banners, link bars, pictures, hyperlinks, document, pdf files,
save the e-portfolio folder
3. blogs (for monay class) ; google readers - blogs (wed; thur)
4. reflection 3 and 4:

Enter two postings separately for reflection 3 and 4 (1) summary of your reflection 1 and 2 (2) your experience in creating blogs and e-portfolios ; thoughts and questions. Please post them by this Friday.

After class -
1. work on e-portfolios
2. post reflections
* Due date for e-portfolio will be moved to week 6. Due date for technology needs assessment / inventory will be moved to week 7.
